COVID-19 Safety and Infection Control at Our Dental Office
This community is our home, and we care deeply about everyone in the greater San Francisco area and beyond. Like most individuals across the United States and throughout the world, Dr. Jarrod Cornehl and the team at DENTAL STUDIO SF have been following federal, state, and local public health guidelines to do our part in minimizing the risk of spreading the coronavirus/COVID-19 pathogen. In March, we followed the recommendations of the CDC and the California Dental Association and closed our doors to general dentistry, facial injectable rejuvenation procedures, and all elective treatments; however, we are still seeing patients for dental emergencies and will remain doing so until the shelter-in-place restrictions in our area have eased and we are able to reopen for all procedures and services. With this in mind, we would like to let you know about some of the many precautions we are taking—and will continue to take—to keep you and all members of our dental team safe and healthy while visiting our office:
Pre-Screening – A member of our team will be contacting all patients with scheduled appointments with a few questions about their current health status and potential exposure to COVID-19. These same questions will be asked again when patients arrive at our office.
Facial Coverings – In keeping with state health guidelines, we require all visitors to arrive at our office with a face mask or covering that fully covers the nose, mouth, and chin.
Restrictions to Office Entry – We ask that patients arrive at our office alone, without friends or others accompanying them, so that we can limit the number of people in the office environment at one time.
Contact-Free Temperature Checks – A member of our team will be conducting contact-free temperature checks upon arrival at our office.
More Frequent Disinfection Protocols – Our office has always taken precautions to ensure the environment is as clean and sterile as possible. We have enhanced these measures even further and will be frequently disinfecting commonly touched surface areas in the lobby and restroom.
Front-Desk Sneeze Guard – We have placed a sneeze guard at the reception desk, which is a clear barrier that offers a layer of protection for both patients and our front-desk team against the possibility of breathing in air particles expelled by a sneeze or a cough in this area.
PPE Standards – Our office will be utilizing enhanced personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols during treatment.
Enhanced Air Quality – We have installed H13 medical-grade HEPA air purification filters throughout our office, which can remove up to 99.9% of particles (including viruses and bacteria) down to 0.1 microns.
Hand Sanitizer – We will have hand sanitizer available at our office, and we request that all visitors use it upon entry. Hand sanitizer will also be located in various areas around the office that you are free to use.
Removal of Non-Essential Items in the Office Environment – Magazines, books, and other types of non-essential items are quite challenging to consistently clean and disinfect, so we have temporarily removed them from the entire office.
Staggered Appointments – We will be strategically staggering appointments to allow for more time between patient visits. This should not only reduce waiting periods, but also minimize the number of patients in the office and reception area at one time.
Appointment Management – To allow for the best possible physical distancing precautions, there may be fewer options for desired appointment times in order to accommodate a staggered appointment schedule at our office. However, we will do our very best to work with you and come up with an appointment time that is convenient for your schedule.
Credit Card Handling – To minimize the handling of credit cards, we require patients to leave a credit or debit card on file for all copayments and all balances that remain unpaid after insurance claims have processed.
We have also modified the patient check-in procedure and we have enhanced our patient communication process. These heightened precautions in our office environment will likely be the new normal for a while, and we believe they are vital to maximizing the safety and health of all individuals who walk through our doors, which has always been our top priority. Again and again, throughout the years, our San Francisco community has historically proven its strength, resilience, and compassion in times of crisis, and we will do so during this challenging time, as well. Our dentists and the team here at DENTAL STUDIO SF very much look forward to seeing you soon, and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
