Microneedling

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a skin rejuvenation treatment that creates microchannels in the skin, which prompts your body to boost the production of collagen and elastin. Results include improved skin texture and firmness, reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as a reduction in scars, pore size, and stretch marks.

Dr. Jarrod Cornehl is extensively skilled and experienced with facial aesthetic enhancement procedures such as microneedling. His master training with these treatments and his comprehensive knowledge of facial anatomy allows Dr. Cornehl to provide a variety of effective treatments that yield beautiful, natural-looking results.

At Dr. Cornehl’s practice in San Francisco, he often combines microneedling with Platelet-Rich Fibrin, or PRF, which is your own purified, nourishing blood fibrin rich in growth factors, healing properties, and stem cells. This produces ideal results that our clients love!

What Is Microneedling?

This treatment rejuvenates the skin using the body’s own healing mechanisms. The handheld device looks like a thick pen. It holds a disposable tip equipped with fine, very thin needles. The needling tips oscillate at high speed, puncturing the skin, but the treatment isn’t painful – the needles are very thin and short. The head of the pen is gently passed across your skin in a specific pattern that Dr. Cornehl uses to treat the whole face evenly.

Particularly when combined with platelet-rich fibrin, microneedling by Dr. Cornehl has the following benefits:

The only way to know if you are a candidate is to visit Dr. Cornehl for a consultation. He also offers BOTOX® Cosmetic and JUVÉDERM®, and he can help you decide which approach to rejuvenation will accomplish your goals.

How Does It Work?

Here is how microneedling works to refresh your skin:

Promotes collagen and elastin production. The microneedles make tiny, puncture-like openings in your skin. While this may sound intimidating, the punctures are so small that they are invisible and do not cause discomfort. These openings in the skin prompt a natural healing response. That response includes stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. Collagen is the main component in connective tissue, and it provides youthfully plump, smooth skin. Elastin is what creates elastic skin that bounces back and doesn’t hold wrinkles. Both of these components lead to firmer, smoother skin.

Opens the skin for better absorption. The micro channels in the skin temporarily open up the cells to absorb PRF, moisturizers, serums and solutions that rejuvenate. This means these solutions will more effectively penetrate the skin and do their work, once microneedling has been performed.

You should take the next 24 hours off from the gym or other physical activities that increase your heart rate. In the hours after, your skin may feel like you have a mild sunburn. You may also have redness and need to leave your face makeup-free for several hours.

The CosmoPen® MicroNeedling System

Dr. Cornehl uses the CosmoPen®. This device offers the following advantages:

Not only does microneedling treat current skin conditions, it can also prevent future wrinkles and loose skin because it creates more collagen and elastin.
