Feeling confident about your teeth and smile can have a positive impact on so many areas of your life:

  • Finding a job
  • Dating
  • Making new friends
  • Getting married
  • Going on vacation

If improving your smile has the effect of boosting your confidence, you may find your interactions in professional and social situations feel warmer and friendlier. Cosmetic dentistry doesn't have such a dramatic impact for everyone (it may just allow you to feel your best), but for some people, it can have a life-changing effect.

Below, we discuss the most common cosmetic dental problems and how they can be corrected. At the DENTAL STUDIO, Dr. Jarrod Cornehl is passionate about providing state-of-the-art care to people in San Francisco. Please call us at 415-392-5025.

Stained Teeth

  • Soda
  • Tea
  • Black coffee
  • Red and white wine
  • Tomato sauce, curry sauce, barbeque sauce
  • Blueberries
  • Beets
  • Sports drinks

You probably don't want to eliminate all of these things from your life. There is a lot to be said for moderation, especially of soda. And after you enjoy a stain-causing food or beverage, rinsing your mouth out with water helps to wash away the staining substance. You could also brush your teeth after a meal. Some evidence has shown that adding dairy milk to your coffee reduces its stain-causing ability. The milk protein binds with the molecules that discolor teeth.

Treatments for stained teeth: A great way to whiten your teeth is with professional teeth whitening or porcelain veneers. These services produce lasting results. Dr. Cornehl performs teeth whitening with in-office laser whitening and customized take-home kits. You may also want to consider porcelain veneers, which conceal stains and create a flawless tooth surface.

Crooked Teeth

Even if you wore braces as a teenager, over time your teeth may have shifted out of position (especially if you lost track of wearing your retainer!). Fortunately, multiple orthodontic options exist to straighten your teeth, including Invisalign®. You may be interested in Invisalign® for its power to straighten your teeth without attracting attention. The clear, plastic aligners are customized to your teeth, and you wear each aligner in the series until treatment is complete.

  • You remove them to eat and drink, so there's no limit to the variety of foods you can eat
  • They are very difficult for other people to see on your teeth, so you can go to work, which might include meeting with clients, giving presentations or interacting with your co-workers, with the confidence of knowing you are straightening your teeth discreetly
  • They are very difficult for others to see, so you can continue to go out with friends and socialize without feeling embarrassed about braces
  • You remove them to brush and floss, so there isn't any special dental hygiene required

Not everyone is a good candidate for Invisalign®, but Dr. Cornehl will be able to determine that during a consultation. Sometimes, minor degrees of crookedness can simply be concealed with porcelain veneers. It depends on the unique circumstances.

Chipped Teeth

A little chip or nick on a tooth can be really frustrating. Maybe you took a fall, were injured playing a sport or bit into something that broke the enamel. Whatever the cause, Dr. Cornehl has the right restoration. Porcelain veneers are a great option. Not only will they conceal the chip, but they will also conceal any other flaws on the tooth. Another option is dental bonding, which is a malleable dental material that is molded onto the tooth, then cured. Bonding is ideal for small chips.

Missing Teeth

Large gaps left by missing teeth can be quite embarrassing, especially as a young professional. While tooth loss is common with age, it can also result from an injury or gum disease. Here are the ways Dr. Cornehl can replace missing teeth:

Dental implants, which replace one or multiple missing teeth. Dental implants are very durable. The implant itself is implanted in the bone beneath the gums. It is a titanium post that bonds with the bone, and has the potential to last decades, or even a lifetime. A dental crown is placed on top of the implant.

A dental bridge, which uses an artificial tooth supported by the surrounding natural teeth. Dental crowns are placed on the surrounding teeth, and the crowns support and hold the artificial tooth in place.

Both of these options utilize tooth restorations that look like natural teeth. A dental bridge tends to last about 5-10 years. When you meet with Dr. Cornehl, he'll make sure you know all of your options and the considerations of each.

Your First Visit to the DENTAL STUDIO

Your first appointment is comprehensive. If you scheduled a cleaning, our experienced dental hygienist will complete that before Dr. Cornehl examines your teeth and mouth. We may also take radiographs and/or intraoral photos of your teeth. Once all of this is completed, Dr. Cornehl will present you with a detailed report that provides the complete picture of your current oral health. If you'd like, you can take your report home and consider whether you want to pursue any cosmetic dentistry treatments or other dental care related to Dr. Cornehl's findings.
